Timothy James Moersh
Timothy James Moersh, 61, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away due to heart failure, in Philadelphia on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born on April 22, 1962, in Freeport, NY, the son of the late James Farner Moersh and Jill Copeland Moersh. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bobby A. Dean, of Covington, VA.
Tim was raised in Cedarhurst, Long Island, NY until the age of 14 when his family moved to Bloomsburg, PA. Tim was a graduate of Bloomsburg Area High School, Bloomsburg, PA. He was also a graduate of Point Park College, Pittsburg, PA, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photojournalism and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA with a Bachelor of Science in Radiological Sciences. He was a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
Tim was a people person and an avid outdoorsman. He loved the peacefulness and beauty of nature and enjoyed hiking and camping. His true love, however, was photography.
Tim was a talented and accomplished international photographer. He began his career with an internship with United Press International in the early 1980s and won Best of Show in the Harrisburg, PA Arts League juried show in 1982.
As a photojournalist, in the early years of his career, he was employed by a number of newspapers in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, He was also employed as a Staff Photographer for Cornell University.
As he expanded his photography career, Tim’s photographic visions took him to Germany, Ukraine, Moscow, Singapore, the British Indian Ocean Territories, the Azore Islands, and the Shoal Islands.
Tim held a Top Secret Security Clearance with the United States Government when he photographed the government preparing for war.
He photographed United States Presidents Richard Nixon, George Bush Sr., and Bill Clinton. He also photographed many VIP’s including Princess Caroline of Monaco, Astronomer Carl Sagan, Actor Paul Newman, NASCAR Driver Richard Petty and many others.
Tim’s clients included The New York Times, New York Post, New York Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, the Federal Government, Associated Press and United Press International.
Tim is survived by a sister, Anne M. Dean, of Covington, VA and a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Moersh and Allen Shinn, of Philadelphia, PA.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
