LOW MOOR- The Alleghany Lady Cougars played an exciting softball game on Tuesday, April 9 against the Patrick County Lady Cougars.
Unfortunately, Alleghany suffered a close 6-5 loss as their comeback attempt was halted a little too early.
Journey Moore blasted a grand slam homer in the top of the fourth inning as Patrick County took a commanding 6-1 lead.
Kelsey Nicely answered with an RBI double in the bottom half of the sixth frame that cut the Patrick Co. lead to 6-2.
The score stayed the same into the top of the seventh as the Alleghany Cougars started to claw back into it. Laken Cantrell doubled, Kaylee Nicely reached on an error, and then Addison Morris doubled home both girls to trim the deficit to 6-4. Three batters later, Paige Webb singled and scored Morris for a 6-5 game at that point. However, Alleghany would strike out with two runners on and Patrick County held on for the tight victory.
Morris led the Alleghany offense with her double and 2 RBIs. She also scored a run.
Addyson Neff took the loss on the mound, but she pitched well. She struck out 10 batters over six innings.
Moore led Patrick Co. with a home run and 4 RBIs.
