HOT SPRINGS – Bath County JV girls softball team kicked off their season with a 9-7 home loss to Pocahontas County on Wednesday, March 22nd.
The Chargers were led by Bayley Gardzinski and Cassidee Nicely who each had two hits. Meanwhile Nicely took to the circle for BCHS and struck out 15 in the loss.
Bath County then would have two home games on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week against Highland and Eastern Montgomery be rained out.
The Chargers did return to the softball field last Thursday where they suffered a tough 7-4 loss to the Highland Rams.
BCHS was led by Gardzinski, Trinity Forbes, and Ava Whiddon who each collected two hits a piece. Gardzinski had a solo home run, while Forbes added a pair of runs plated. Forbes took the loss in the circle for the Chargers.
Bath County (0-2) will be off until Tuesday, April 9th when they play at Parry McCluer.
Note: It was announced just days prior to the start of the 2024 season that Bath County would not field a varsity team. BCHS had not fielded a varsity program since 2019 and were looking to put together their first varsity team in five years under first-year head coach Charlie Padgett. The Chargers will only have a JV team for the 2024 season.
