It was great to be back home in the Valley during the Easter district work period. As many of you have seen by now, the border crisis continues to rage on because of the Biden Administration’s disastrous open border policies. Higher prices for food, gas, energy, and nearly everything else have also stressed paychecks to the breaking point since Biden took office, and yet this administration seems content to double down on failed economic and energy policies that have led to this calamity. As a reminder, my office is currently accepting applications to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. We also honored those who served in Vietnam on National Vietnam Veterans Day. Finally, I hope that you and your family had a blessed and joyous Easter.
Biden’s Border Crisis Rages On
President Biden and the Far Left’s open border policies have created the worst border crisis as well as a national security crisis and a humanitarian crisis. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, there have been over 9 million illegal crossings nationwide since Biden took office, which is more than the over 8.6 million people that live in the Commonwealth of Virginia. There were 189,922 migrant encounters in February, the highest February ever recorded. Border Patrol also apprehended 140,644 illegal immigrants in February, the second highest February ever recorded, and 70 people on the FBI terrorist watchlist have been arrested so far this year.
President Biden and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have every tool at their disposal to fix this crisis. If they wanted to secure the border, they could do it any day, yet they choose to ignore the crisis every single day. House Republicans have done their job by passing the Secure the Border Act – the strongest border security legislation in Congress’ history. While Biden and Mayorkas continue to sit idly by while our nation’s borders are being overrun, we’re fighting to stop it.
Unleashing American Energy and Lowering Costs for Families
American families continue to struggle under rising costs due to the Biden Administration’s war on American energy independence. Instead of producing cleaner energy in the United States, President Biden shut down the Keystone XL pipelines, froze LNG export terminal approvals, has pushed a gas vehicle ban and depleted our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to its lowest since the 1980s, putting our national security at risk.
X Eggs are UP 49% since Biden took office.
X Gasoline is UP 38.8% since Biden took office.
X Transportation services are UP 35.2% since Biden took office.
X Electricity is UP 28.6% since Biden took office.
X Food prices are UP 20.9% since Biden took office.
Every day Americans are paying more at the pump, at the grocery store, and in their electricity bills, as they suffer under the mounting inflation caused by Democrats’ runaway spending. Americans are fed up with President Biden’s radical energy policies and woke climate agenda, which is why House Republicans are fighting to bring down prices – starting with H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. Unlike the Biden administration, we are focused on lowering energy prices and inflation for hardworking Americans.
