LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – LewisGale Hospital Alleghany recently unveiled its new Nuclear Medicine SPECT CT equipment at its Low Moor campus. The testing can help better evaluate and diagnose Parkinson’s disease, thyroid and parathyroid hyper/hypo activity studies, cardiac stress, skeletal imaging and gastrointestinal imaging, among others.
This new technology combines a single photo emission computed tomography (SPECT) with a traditional nuclear medicine scan. The result is a test that shows the function of the organ system (NM) combined with the detailed anatomy of the body (CT). This aids clinicians in diagnosing certain conditions and overseeing treatment plans.
“These new tests offer the latest technology for imaging patients at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany and underscores our investment and commitment to this community,” said Tom Elmore, LewisGale Hospital Alleghany imaging director. “The equipment cuts the exam table time for the patient in half for most exams, allowing patients to spend more time doing their daily activities and less time undergoing imaging testing.”
This sets the NM SPECT CT scan apart from other previously available testing, leading to more efficient diagnosis and providing for better patient outcomes.
Patients should speak with their physicians regarding the new testing or contact LewisGale Hospital Alleghany imaging department at 540-862-6290 for more information.
