Save the date! On Saturday, May 11, Mountain View Elementary School —located at 100 Gleason Drive in Covington, Virginia— will be hosting the first annual Car Show set to benefit their P.T.O. and all other participating schools in the area. The highly anticipated fundraiser promises fun for the entire family with plenty of food and fun for the whole family!
For the kids, the event will have face painting, games, and bouncy houses donated by Fincastle Baptist Church. For the adults, there will of course be the car show as well as a cake walk, DJ Helena Gaines-Hubble, and several vendors on site selling items such as: Scentsy, homemade jewelry, crochet, wreaths, wax melts, women’s apparel, and more!
There are currently 11 vendors signed up, but there is plenty of room for more! Those who wish to sell their products at this event may do so by reaching out to Mallory Thompson, Mountain View Elementary School Principal, at 540-863-1737, and filling out a form. The spots are 10 feet by 10 feet and can be rented for $25 a spot or $40 for two adjoining spots (20 feet by 10 feet).
The Car Show itself will have three winners to be voted on the day of the event. There will be a staff choice, a student choice, and a PTO choice. All winners will receive a trophy made by the students at Jackson River Technical Center (JRTC). The registration fee is $15 and anyone can pre-register by contacting Chris Tingler at 540-679-0200 or Thompson at the previously listed phone number.
Principal Mallory Thompson sat down and spoke with the Virginian Review on Thursday, April 4, outlining the event that promises 3 parking lots, handicapped parking, food from the Boiling Springs Fire Department, Michael’s Pizza, and Blow N Smoke, as well as a H.E.A.T. car and special appearance by the Virginia State Police. There will also be t-shirts for sale during the event and all sponsors who donate enough a predetermined amount will be showcased on the backs of the shirts.
The school is still in need to help the event go off without a hitch. Those include: gift certificates, items for a silent auction, merchandise for gift bags to be handed out the day of the event (they plan to make 100), vendors, and anyone else who wishes to sponsor the event.
Thompson expressed her gratitude toward all those who have sponsored the event up to this point. They are Carey Floors, Alcova Mortgage, Ingevity, Nicely’s Auction Co., Ace Hardware, S.G. Young Contracting, Gerald Franson, Casa de Leones, Chapman’s Plumbing and Heating, Jackson River Community Credit Union, Dawn King, Driven Designs, Lick Run Creations, and Highlands Bank. The Virginian Review is proud to be among those sponsoring this esteemed event which stands to benefit the P.T.O. as well as the children in our community.
