Today’s Headline: Landowner At Last Permits Car To Be Taken Off Land.
After lying at the bottom of a 50-foot ravine three-quarters of a mile east of Clifton Forge for more than 24 hours the Pontiac coupe of C.P. Carson of Miami, Fla., was raised to the highway Friday afternoon when Otto Fischer, landowner, finally agreed to have the car removed from her property.
She had been holding it for the damage which she said was caused when it left the road and went over the bank.

Today’s Headline: ‘Copter Crash Kills 2.
Two men died Wednesday afternoon when their helicopter hooked several high wires and crashed about two miles west of Eagle Rock on Route 743 in northwestern Botetourt County.
The victims of the crash were Elbert Jackson Lester, 45, of New Castle, District Ranger for the Jefferson National Forest and Lt. Col. David Edward Condon, 42, of Fort Eustis.
H. Phil Burks of Covington was awarded the construction contract for the Phase II addition to Watson High School Wednesday night.

Carolyn Barnette, CPS, is the first black in the Alleghany Highlands to be certified as a professional secretary.
She was among approximately 1,965 secretaries who successfully completed the six-part, two-day examination in May.

Councilman Harrison Scott was elected Covington’s new mayor Wednesday evening during the biennial reorganizational meeting of Covington City Council.
