STUARTS DRAFT – It was a rough season-opener for the reigning 2023 Pioneer District Tournament Champion Bath County varsity girls’ soccer team as they were shutout 8-0 on the road against Stuarts Draft.
In what was an offensive clinic for the Cougars, SDHS was led by seniors Izzy Coyner, Hailey Cox, and Maddia Baska each had two goals apiece.
Stuarts Draft scored four goals in each the first and second half. The Cougars also had scores from junior Lydia Monroe and sophomore Morgan Spradley.
Despite allowing eight scores in the nets, senior goalkeeper Zoey Jenkins did have 24 saves.
Sophomore Kenley Smith had the only attempted shot for Bath County. Smith did have six steals for the Chargers. Junior Sierra Gardener led the way for BCHS with seven steals.
Friday’s away game at Auburn was postponed. There is currently no make-up date announced. Bath County will return to the field on Tuesday, March 19th with their home-opener against Grace Christian.
