BUENA VISTA – When you see a final score 45-34, you might think football, or basketball, and maybe not necessarily in softball.

That though did take place this past Tuesday in Buena Vista as Parry McCluer defeated Bath County 45-34 in a Pioneer District JV softball game.

Credit to both the Fighting Blues and Chargers JV softball teams for going out there last Tuesday and putting up an offensive explosion all game long.

BCHS erupted in the first inning with 14 runs. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from T. Forbes (3-for-6). Forbes had three hits and three RBIs in the 1st inning alone.

After PMHS grabbed three runs back in the home half of the first inning, the Chargers scored five more runs in the top of the second to take an 18-3 lead.

However, despite the 15-run advantage, Parry McCluer did exactly what Bath County did in the first inning and scored at will, as the Fighting Blues got back in the game and were only now down 18-16 after a 13-run second inning.

P. Hill (5-for-7) helped bring the PMHS back in the game with five RBI’s during the 13-run second inning, including an inside the park grand slam.

Bath County scored four more runs in the third inning to take a 22-16 lead, but Parry McCluer came slugging back by scoring nine runs and taking their first lead of the game at 25-22. K. Wallace put the Fighting Blues ahead with a two-run single.

Much like both teams did all game, the Chargers would answer in the top of the fourth inning with nine runs to retake the lead at 31-25.

In the home half of the fourth inning, it was Parry McCluer’s turn to answer, and they did so with an eight-run inning to retake the lead at 33-31. It was all the separation that the Fighting Blues needed as both teams traded scores in the fifth inning.

The Chargers missed a chance at taking the lead back in the sixth inning as they left runners in scoring position at second and third base.

Leading 35-34, Parry McCluer scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game and a 45-34 final score.

Hill led the way for the Fighting Blues with five hits and a game-high nine RBI’s. J. Hostetter added five RBI’s for PMHS. The Fighting Blues finished with 28 total hits in the win.

In the loss, Forbes, A. Ingram (3-for-5), and C. Forbes (1-for-3) each had three RBI’s.

Some notable statistics from the game; there was 79 total runs (45 Parry, 34 Bath), 41 hits (28 Parry, 13 Bath), 130 total at-bats (67 Parry, 63 Bath), 17 errors (9 Parry, 8 Bath), and 40 total walks (18 Parry, 22 Bath).
