HOT SPRINGS – Much like the rest of the spring sports for Bath County, the varsity baseball team has also been hit by numerous postponements and cancellations.
Although the Chargers did take the field this past week on Tuesday in a 10-0 loss to Parry McCluer in Buena Vista where they were no-hit, the team had three other games this week either be postponed or canceled altogether. The loss to the Fighting Blues was the teams Pioneer District opener.
Four games in total have been moved or canceled for the BCHS varsity baseball team.
On Tuesday, March 26th, Bath County had their home district game against Highland be postponed and moved to April 24th, while this past Thursday, their away district game against Narrows was also postponed, however, there is no current makeup date announced. And then this past Saturday, their doubleheader with Meadow Bridge was cancelled altogether.
Bath County (1-2, 0-1 Pioneer) has managed to play only three games total so far through nearly one month of the baseball season. The Chargers defeated Pocahontas County 10-9 in their season-opener and then lost 10-0 in back-to-back games against both Pendleton County and Parry McCluer.
Owen Perdue and Ryan Ratcliffe lead the team in batting average with a .667 avg. Meanwhile, Issac Ingram leads the team with 10 strikeouts.
Currently the BCHS is scheduled for three games this week. The team plays on the road on Tuesday & Thursday against Grace Christian and Eastern Montgomery, and then the Chargers host Craig County on Friday. The home game on Friday will be the first time the team is hosting since their season opener against Pocahontas County on March 30th.
It’s a busy two weeks ahead for Bath County as they have six games on schedule in the next 14 days.
