On Friday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m., Caleb Bailey and Paine’s Run return to the stage of The Historic Masonic Theatre.
Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run formed in 2021 due to the success of Bailey’s album, Poplar & Pine. Bailey lends lead vocals to the band and is joined by Rob Slusser on banjo, Brandon Kyle on bass, Merl Johnson on fiddle, Joshua Morris on mandolin, and Chad Darou on Drobro and vocals. The band is based in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and has performed at high-profile fairs, festivals, and concert events this year. Bailey comes from a long line of musical influences in his family. His great-grandparents recorded music and were bluegrass promoters, and his great-uncle played with Tom T. Hall and Eddie Rabbit as a steel guitar and Dobro player. Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine says Bailey is “an authentic vocalist who gets his important messages across with mature and heartfelt songwriting and singing. He’s got his own style and messages to share, seemingly beyond his years.”
Rob Slusser is the banjo player for Paine’s Run. He is a songwriter from Clifton Forge, Virginia, specializing in contemporary bluegrass and eloquent arrangements that help soothe the soul. He also has a solo EP titled “Drifting.” On bass is Brandon Kyle. His slapping style bass playing has roots influenced by watching his mentor Victor Dowdy. His most significant musical influence was his late father Jimmy Kyle, known throughout Virginia as a solid guitar player and singer. Brandon played with Allegheny Blue with Caleb before joining Paine’s Run. Brandon and his daughter Tatum make their home in Grottoes, VA. Merl Johnson is an accomplished fiddle player, having played with some of the most recognizable names in bluegrass, James King and Dave Evans. His soulful fiddle skills bring the lonesome to the music that isn’t readily replicated. Joshua Morris is the youngest member of the band, joining at the age of 17. He has been playing music since he was 8 and credits his grandfather as one of his early musical influences.
He is a multi-instrumentalist and has the drive and determination to be a force in the music for years to come.
Make plans to join us at The Historic Masonic for an evening of bluegrass played by talented musicians.
