The C&O Historical Society celebrated its annual National Train Day at the Heritage Center in Clifton Forge, last Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
During a short rain, Wendy Montgomery and Anita Bird were busy preparing for what they were hoping to be “a big crowd.” The offerings were half-price admission at $5.00, popcorn, snow cones, coloring material, goodie bags, a tour of the museum, and a mini-train ride on the miniature railway.
Ed, Melanie, and James Doherty, who were camping at Douthat State Park, “came down here (downtown) and saw this and said we definitely have to come here (to NTD),” said Ed Doherty of Florida, as they sat in the arrival and departure station waiting for their chance at a ride on the mini-train.
National Train Day is observed every year on the Saturday closest to May 10.
