The James River Knights (Buchanan) kept the Alleghany Mountaineers (0-17/0-5) still searching for their first victory on Tuesday night at Mountaineer gym in a Three Rivers District match.
Down two sets to none and despite their best efforts during the the third set, which saw both schools make scoring point runs, the Knights would ultimately pull out the third set win following a 24-24 tie for a straight set victory over the Mountaineers.
Lainie McCormick had a big game for the Mountaineers as she tallied half of the teams kills with seven of her own in the game along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Kalin Rice and Kinsey Middleton, led the way for the Mountaineers with 17 combined digs. Rice had 10, while Middleton had seven. Hannah Hensley added three blocks and three kills.
Leading the way for the victors were Emma Francis who had a game-high eight kills, while Belle Stewart also had a game best with 12 assists.
Earlier in the evening, the JV Mountaineers improved to 11-6 on the season and 4-1 in the district after needing only two sets to defeat the JV Knights, 25-18 and 25-21.
The Mountaineers were on the road on last night against the Radford Bobcats.
