Although it is still the middle of winter the Alleghany Cruisers have been hard at work, preparing for the 2024 local car event season. With spring fast approaching, the first events of the year are just a couple short months away.
“We are looking forward to a big year,” says Alleghany Cruisers president Robert Floyd. “Last year we enjoyed great attendance at all of our events, this year we are looking forward to more growth.”
The Alleghany Cruisers 2024 season kicks off on Friday, April 12 with the first Cruisin’ Covington event. Cruisin’ Covington is an old-fashioned cruise night where car enthusiasts cruise the town and have informal get-togethers with friends. While on the town the cruisers support local restaurants and spend the evening “out on the town”. Cruisin’ Covington will be held each Friday through August 30.
The Alleghany Cruisers will also be hosting numerous Cruise In’s throughout 2024. These events are designed to create the traditional cruise in atmosphere while supporting local organizations and businesses. Each of these events will feature a live D.J., door prizes, food service, and more.
“One of the goals of the Alleghany Cruisers was to bring back the Friday night Cruise In’s which had largely been abandoned during 2020,” said Floyd. “These events have an amazing atmosphere and help our local businesses that have been so supportive of these events.”
The first Cruise-In of the season will be held at the Rivermont School in Falling Springs on Sunday, April 28. This event is designed to help raise awareness for autism. The Cruise In’s will then revert to Friday evening events throughout the summer. The Spring Cruise-In will be held at King’s Tire Service on May 10 and the Classic Cruise-In will be held at Magic City Chevrolet on June 7. The classic Summer Cruise In’s will be held at Cucci’s on July 26 and August 23 respectively. These events will honor the 50’s and 60’s and the 70’s and 80’s. The Alleghany Cruisers will also once again be hosting the Labor Day Cruise In on Monday, September 2 at the Jackson River Sports Complex. This event will be held in conjunction with the Alleghany Highlands Labor Day Celebration. Fall Cruise In’s are planned at both Wright Way Motors and King’s Tire Service with dates to be announced. Other Cruise In’s are also under discussion.
The Alleghany Cruisers will also once again be hosting one of the area’s largest events, the 5th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show. This event will be held on Saturday, June 15 at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
“The Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show is one of the fastest-growing car shows in the region,” said Floyd. This show has tripled in size in three years and offers something for everyone. Most importantly, this event raised money for the Back the Blue Scholarship which benefits local students furthering their education in the criminal justice field, and it honors and pays tribute to the hard-working men and women in law enforcement.”
The Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show will feature raffles, door prizes, dash plaques, goodie bags, vendors, food, and much more along with vehicles of all types.
On Saturday evening June 15, the Alleghany Cruisers will be hosting the 3rd Annual Back the Blue Bash at the River Rock Amphitheater. This free event will feature a concert from THE FREQUENCEY along with raffles and door prizes.
The Alleghany Cruisers will conclude the season with the 3rd Annual Holiday Hot Rod Round Up on Saturday, October 26. This event will be held at the Jackson River Sports Complex and is a benefit for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program which benefits local children during the Christmas season.
“The Holiday Hot Rod Round Up doubled in size last year,” said Floyd. “We really enjoy hosting this event as it benefits our local kids during the holidays.”
The Holiday Hot Rod Round Up will feature a live D.J, door prizes, dash plaques, raffles, kid’s activities, a visit from Santa Claus, and much more.
