Dorothy Louise “Dot” Helms Nicely
Dorothy Louise “Dot” Helms Nicely, age 92, of 5111 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 4308 Longdale Furnace Road.
Dot was born January 12, 1932, in Craig County, Virginia to the late William Thomas and Celia Persinger Helms, and was a retired Cafeteria Manager for Sharon Elementary School. She was a member of Longdale United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer, and belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Association L.W.M. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening, and loved antiques.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Nicely, Jr.; two sisters, Delilah Ervin and Annabelle Dew; and a brother, William Thomas Helms, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie E. Nicely of Gulfport, FL; two sons, Steven Thomas Nicely, Sr., and wife Kathleen Clair, and Timothy E. Nicely, both of Clifton Forge; a sister, Audrey Mae Nicely of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Larry Hinkle, Lewis Hinkle, and Steven Thomas Nicely, Jr. and wife Rachel; three great-grandchildren, James Nicely, Tye Nicely, and Logan Nicely; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, W.V. Nicely.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Larry Dew, Wesley Dew, Larry Hinkle, Lewis Hinkle, John Burkley Nicely, Steve Nicely, Steven Nicely. Jr., W.V. Nicely, and Mike Taylor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
