HOT SPRINGS – Coming off of a 1-1 tie against Bland County, Bath County was looking to ride their momentum into a non-district showdown with Miller School of Albemarle. However, the Mavericks had other ideas and blanked the Chargers varsity girls’ soccer team 7-0 at Carl F. Williams Field last Tuesday night.
Despite a rainy night in Hot Springs, the visiting Miller School of Albemarle had no trouble weathering the storm as junior Haven Teachman put together a haul of a performance with four goals scored.
Seniors Larissa Cole and Neva Gure, as well as sophomore Sophie Scibal, each had one goal apiece for the visiting Mavericks. Meanwhile sophomore Clara McKnight was 10-for-10 in save opportunities on the nets.
Bath County didn’t have many chances at scoring. Junior Laci Ryder attempted the only two shots on goal. The Chargers have only scored one goal through their first four games this season.
On the defensive side of the soccer field, despite giving up seven goals, senior Zoey Jenkins had another impressive outing on the nets with 19 saves. Jenkins has 77 total saves on the season.
Junior Sierra Gardner led the Chargers with seven steals, while sophomore Kenley Smith and freshman Reaghan Pritt each added six.
BCHS (0-3-1) has no games scheduled this week and are off until Tuesday, April 9th when they visit Auburn in a non-district girls soccer match.
