Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Simmons Persinger, age 70, of Covington, died November 6, 2020, at the Woodlands Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Clifton Forge. She is the wife of David Randolph Persinger.
Mrs. Persinger was born December 5, 1949 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Charles Raymond Simmons and Pearl Tucker Simmons. A lifetime resident of this community and a homemaker, she was also employed as a cook by the Country Corners Store. Rachel was a member of the former Cliff Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Persinger is survived by two sons, Donald Wade Persinger of Covington and Rocky Allen Persinger of Salem; five grandchildren, Montana Dawn Persinger, Daytona Brooklynn Persinger, Blake Paitsel, Jaden Ann Persinger and Sarge Palmer Persinger; a great grandchild, Gentry Jasper Wilhelm; two brothers, Elmer Simmons and Charlie Simmons, both of Covington; three sisters, Doris Hartman of Covington, Christine Fisher of Low Moor and Mary Tucker of Low Moor; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Persinger was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles William Simmons and Harvey Simmons and two sisters, Jane S. Gibson and Betty S. Persinger.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
