HOT SPRINGS – The Bath County girls soccer team was in search of their first win of the season in their second home game of the 2024 season on Friday but came away with a 1-1 draw with Bland County in Hot Springs at Carl F. Williams Field.
Following back-to-back shutout losses to Stuarts Draft and Grace Christian, the Chargers were in search of their first scored goal of the new season.
After falling behind early in the first half 1-0, BCHS grabbed their first goal of the season late into the half with a score from junior forward Laci Ryder.
It would be the last goal for either team as both played a scoreless second half.
A big reason the Bears were held in check in the second half was in large part due to senior goalkeeper Zoey Jenkins who had 10 saves in the draw. Jenkins through three games this season has 58 saves.
On Tuesday evening, Bath County dropped their second game of the season, losing 3-0 in their home-opener against Grace Christian. Jenkins had 24 saves in a loss to the Warriors on Tuesday.
Bath County (0-2-1) will be back home on Tuesday as they look to get into the win column when they host Miller School of Albemarle.
Bland County 1 0 – 1
Bath County 1 0 – 1
BATH COUNTY (1) – Laci Ryder.
SAVES – Bath County 10 (Zoey Jenkins 10).
