RINER – Playing on the road for the third time in their first four games, Bath County came up short Monday night in a close 4-2 non-district varsity boys’ soccer match to Auburn in Riner.
The Eagles playing in their 2024 home-opener broke a 1-1 first half tie by netting three goals in the second half on Chargers senior goalkeeper Frankie DeBoe. DeBoe finished the game with six saves.
Senior forward Andrew Turner continued with his early season success scoring as he kept BCHS in the match by netting both goals for the Chargers. Turner now has eight total goals through the first four games.
Junior Braiden Mabe led Bath County with three steals, while senior Luke Hooker and freshman Walker Randozzo each had a pair of steals.
Auburn improved to 2-0-1 on the season following their 4-2 home win over Bath County. The two scores given up by the Eagles were their first goals they have allowed this season. AHS had a 0-0 tie with Galax in their season-opener and then pitched a 1-0 shutout win over Giles.
Bath County (2-2) kicks off their Pioneer District games on Wednesday as they are on the road against Eastern Montgomery.
