Week six of high school football is starting to look like week five.
Last week we had two postponed games (Alleghany and Covington).
This week, two as well.
For the Alleghany Mountaineers, the team had their rescheduled their Friday home game against Staunton River to this past Tuesday. On Monday that game was once again rescheduled for Tuesday, October 12.
Meanwhile for the Covington Cougars, they have canceled their game for tomorrow at Grayson County.
But amidst all the rescheduling, we still have two games on tap for tomorrow night.
The Mountaineers will be on the road against the Radford Bobcats while the Bath County Chargers host Page County in their second of three consecutive home games.
Alleghany at Radford
As the Mountaineers get ready for their first Three Rivers District game of the game of the season tomorrow night against the Bobcats, the team enters with a 1-2 record.
Last time on the field for the Mountaineers, the Cave Spring Knights ran away with a 48-8 victory on September 17.
The Mountaineers lone touchdown of the game, came on a Garrett Via kick return for a touchdown of nearly 80 yards.
The team did convert a two-point try when Kole Caldwell connected with Lucas Rogers.
Heading into their game tomorrow, the Mountaineers are averaging just over 23 points a game while giving up just over 24 points game.
Via and Matt Howell are leading the way in rushing as the two have a combined 40 attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Dalton Griffith and Dylan Nicely lead the defensive attack with a combined 52 tackles.
The Bobcats enter the game with a 3-2 record and are coming off of their worst loss of the season last Friday to Christiansburg 63-0.
The team has dropped two in a row since their 3-0 start.
In their five games, the Bobcats are averaging just over 26 points a game. About a three-point difference than the Mountaineers.
One positive for the Mountaineers is, the Bobcats are giving up just over 25 points a game which right around how many points the team is averaging on the year.
Page County at Bath County
Due to postponed games and their bye week coming early in the season, the Chargers have only seen the field twice this season.
Both coming in shutout losses. A 22-0 loss at Covington in the season opener, and a 54-0 home loss against Buffalo Gap last week.
On top of it all, the team will be down two players still, stemming from the altercation that took place in the season opener against the Cougars.
Needless to say, it’s been a rough start to the season for the Chargers, but the plus side is they’re only two games in and have plenty of room for improvement.
Freshman quarterback, Cooper Lowry got the start last week and finished the game 2-for-5 with 38 yards passing.
Meanwhile, sophomore, Bransen Gordon flashed some offense for the Chargers in the backfield with nine rushing attempts for 30 yards.
For Panthers their last game was forfeited by Madison County.
Following their forfeit win, the Panthers enter their game against the Chargers with a 2-3 record.
The Panthers are scoring an average of just over 22 points per game while surrendering 26 points a game.
