Hot Springs, Va. – The James River Warm Springs Ranger District on the George Washington – Jefferson National Forest is seeking volunteers to help district staff prepare Lake Moomaw Recreation Area for the 2024 summer season during Volunteer Days.
Lake Moomaw is in Bath County. Volunteer Days will be held throughout April and May at different locations in the Recreation Area from 10 am – 3pm on the following days:
- April 19 & 20 – Meet at Coles Point boat ramp parking lot.
- April 26 & 27 – Meet at Sugar Ridge campground/Bolar information station.
- May 10 & 11 – Meet at Bolar Beach.
District staff alongside the Friends of Lake Moomaw organization invite the public to help beautify Lake Moomaw with light maintenance work including trash cleanup, weed eating, leaf and brush removal, and tidying facilities. No prior experience is required to participate, and minors may participate with parental consent. Volunteers should arrive prepared with weather and work-appropriate attire, footwear, as well as water and food. All training and tools will be provided by the Forest Service; volunteers are asked to bring personal protective equipment such as work gloves and eye protection.
“Lake Moomaw is a special place for so many families, we encourage everyone who has made memories camping, fishing, and recreating here to roll up their sleeves with us,” said District Ranger Kevin Kyle.
