STAUNTON – The Bath County varsity boys’ soccer team earned their first win of the season last Tuesday behind four different players who scored goals in a 4-0 shutout victory on the road over Riverheads in Staunton.
After dropping their season-opener to Stuarts Draft eight days prior, the layoff period in between their first and second game had no effect on the Chargers who were effective on both sides of the soccer field.
Seniors Andrew Turner and Carter Hooker, junior Wyatt Campbell, and sophomore Luke Turner each scored a goal for BCHS, with all four coming in the second half of the boys’ soccer game following a scoreless first half of play. A. Turner also had two assists.
While the offense got the job done on that side of the soccer field, defensively, the team was just as impressive. Senior goalkeeper Frankie DeBoe pitched his first shutout of the season as he finished with five saves in Bath County’s first win of the year.
It was tough for Riverheads to get good looks at the nets all 80+ minutes as the defense from Bath County swarmed the Gladiators offense when they touched the ball.
Freshman Walker Randozzo led the Chargers with four steals, while Campbell and junior Braiden Mabe each had three a piece.
Junior goalkeeper Josh Brown had seven saves for the Gladiators.
The win moved BCHS to 1-1 on the season, while it dropped RHS to 0-3.
