The Mountain Gateway Community College Alpha Eta Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, recently helped to prepare approximately 350 Rock and Read Bags for the Alleghany Highlands Early Learning Partnership. The bags, which contain books, parent information on developmental milestones, information on the Dolly Parton Imagination Station program, and information on AHELP, are distributed throughout the Alleghany Highlands to help support new parents and underscore the importance of early childhood education. Several MGCC PTK members helped with the effort . Pictured are a few of those students. From left to right, Teresa Byer (Alleghany Health District Supervisor, Alleghany Co./ Covington Health Dept and AHELP Committee member), Dianne Garcia (AHELP Coordinator), Kat Young (PTK member), Ashley Pratt (PTK Co-Advisor), Katie Shofstahl (PTK President), Abigail Bush (PTK member), and Rachael Thompson (PTK Co-advisor). Students eligible for membership in PTK must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework in their designated program of study with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Co-Advisors for PTK are Lee Anne Bowling, Ashley Pratt, and Rachael Thompson. For more information about PTK, contact Advisor Ashley Pratt at (540) 863-2851 or apratt@mgcc.edu. (MGCC photo)
