Between Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th, the Varsity Indoor Track teams, both boys and girls, traveled to Liberty University in Lynchburg to compete in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 3 State Indoor Championship. The highly anticipated event gave these Alleghany Cougars the opportunity to showcase their remarkable skills, athleticism, and sportsmanship.
As they stepped onto the Liberty University track, the crowd cheered with delight, eager to witness their Alleghany Cougars take on their prestigious competition. With so much preparation behind them, the time had come for them to demonstrate their talent and run against the best of the best in the state. The Cougars were in good company.
Both teams showed up to win, revealing their dedication, tenacity, and training in every stride. It was a true testament to their hard work and guidance of their coaches, namely Head Coach Jeremy Bartley and Assistant Coach Set Davis. Bartley’s wife, Erin, also donated “hours of her time each week to prepare their handoffs, block starts and all of their workouts,” according to Jeremy Bartley’s Facebook post.
With their coaches, fellow teammates, parents, and fans all behind them, the Cougars were ready to leave their pawprints on the track, and that’s just what they did. Afterwards Coach Bartley stated, “I’m very proud of the entire indoor team for this season. We grew 200% from last season and we continue to get better. We took a huge step in competition this year and that always adds difficulty.” Next year, it is likely the Alleghany Cougars Indoor Track Teams will continue to improve, despite the challenges that increased difficulties may bring. Here at the Virginian Review, we’re very excited to watch the continued growth of this new team in the years to come.
