BUENA VISTA – Top-seeded Parry McCluer easily took care of business in the Pioneer District tournament semifinals with a 96-53 victory over 5-seeded Bath County on Wednesday, February 14th in Buena Vista.

The Chargers were coming off of an upset win over Highland in the first round on Monday which also clinched their first Class 1, Region C tournament appearance since 2019.

The task to get to the district title game was an even more difficult hill to climb as Parry McCluer (20-4) had won 17 of their last 18 games. Slowing them down was no easy task as the Fighting Blues were too much for Bath County.

The 96 points was a season-high for PMHS, in which the team had scored 90 on BCHS in their second meeting during the regular season just eight days prior.

Evan Cook could not be denied in the semifinal win over Bath County. Cook scored a game-high 25 points, including seven 3-pointers. Langston Cook added 14 for Parry McCluer, while Landon Catlett added 12.

PMHS built an early 29-14 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Andrew Turner was the lone Charger in double digits scoring as Turner scored a team-high 14 points, including a set of 3-pointers made. Turner also had six assists. Issac Ingram chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

Bath County hung tight with Parry McCluer behind the 3-point range. The Chargers knocked down 10, while the Fighting Blues had 14.

The run in the district tournament was not over for BCHS as they played against Eastern Montgomery in the consolation/third place game.

Bath County 14 5 16 18 – 53
Parry McCluer 29 27 24 16 – 96
