Charles Watson “Sonny” Persinger, Sr.
Charles Watson “Sonny” Persinger, Sr., age 92, of 306 Lacks Avenue, Covington, Virginia died Thursday, October 26, 2023, at his residence.
Charles was born on January 17, 1931, in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late John Ira and Clara Jane Persinger. He was a retired timekeeper for MeadWestvaco, and attended Faith Baptist Church. He loved square dancing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Persinger Noffsinger; a brother, Jesse Persinger; ten sisters, Blanche Wolf, Susie Tingler, Nilda Tucker, Jane Persinger, Ruby Armstrong, Marie McEwen, Liona Jamison, Lena Elmore, Sadie Wetmore, and Phyllis Muterspaugh; three stepsons, Raymond Caldwell, Roger Caldwell, and Randy Caldwell; and a son in law, Benny VanNess.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Rose Persinger of Covington; a daughter, Martha Vanness of Iron Gate; three sons, Charles W. Persinger, Jr. and wife, Audrey of Colonial Heights, Steven Lewis Persinger and wife, Debbie of Chesterfield, and Michael Lee Persinger and wife, Karen of Clifton Forge; three stepdaughters, Brenda Tingler of Clifton Forge, Amy Hogg of Glen Wilton, and Tammy Caldwell of Clifton Forge; a sister, Hazel Fuller of Pulaski; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Billy Price officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends on Monday at 12:00 Noon at Nicely Funeral Home.
