LOW MOOR, VA – How do you go about ending the regular season? Maybe put on a hitting clinic for the home crowd, which is exactly what the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers did on Monday evening. The Mountaineers erupted for 17 hits in a 10-4 Three Rivers District victory over the Floyd County Lady Buffaloes.
Alleghany scored at-will all game long as they put runs on the scoreboard in each inning they took to the plate. Of their 17 hits, the Mountaineers belted three home runs. Kaylee Nicely got it started by putting the team up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. Then in the fifth inning, Kelsey Nicely and Savannah Cash hit back-to-back solo homers which at the time extended the teams lead to 7-2.
All starters had at least one hit for Alleghany in the team’s 15th win of the season. Bryce Leitch, Kinsey Middleton, and Kendell Keene led the team with three hits each. Kalin Rice led all batters with four RBI’s. Meanwhile in the circle, Keene tossed a complete game where she gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits over her seven innings. Keene also walked six and struck out five.
Floyd County’s Ava Dejesus and Kiley Hylton led the team with a pair of base hits, while Kyra Vaugh led the team with two RBI’s. The loss was charged to Emma Biesterveld who also tossed a complete-game. Biesterveld was charged with 10 runs (nine earned) off of 17 hits, where she walked one, and struck out five.
With the win Alleghany improved to 15-5 overall and 6-4 in the district. On Wednesday they will host the same Radford Lady Bobcats team that they came from behind against to beat last Thursday in a Class 2, Region C first rounder softball game. The winner will play at Appomattox on Friday.
