State Health Officers Here
Dr. L.L. Williams, Jr., of the State Health Department, and Dr., C.A. Kane, of the Rockefeller Foundation, are in this city, working in the interest of the eradication of mosquitoes from the state, and also for better sanitary conditions. These men have had a wide experience in this sort of work and have done most effective service in the eastern part of the state, especially in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Mr. Chas. T. England, Former Resident of Covington, Is Dead
News of the death of Mr. Charles Thompson England was received Sunday with deep sorrow by his many friends in Covington, where he was born and grew to manhood. Charles THompson England was the eldest son of Dr. Joseph Root and Annie McAllister England, old-time residents of Covington and was born at “Rosedale,” the McAllister homestead, April 7th, 1878. His death occurred Saturday, August 7, at the Beckley Hospital at Beckley, W.Va. Mr. England is pleasantly remembered by many of the older residents of Covington.

New Gymnasium Bleachers Urged For Covington High
After receiving a resolution from Miss Lilly Albert, of the Covington High School Alumni Association, favoring new bleachers for the school’s new gymnasium, the Covington School Board endorsed the project at last night’s meeting provided that it can be properly financed. John S. Heretick, principal of the school, also spoke in favor of buying the new bleachers. He said the new gymnasium is so designed that only nine of the ten sections of bleachers used in the old gymnasium could be installed in it, which would give it a seating capacity of 540.

House Dedicated To College’s Educational Foundation
A donation from the estate of the late Virgil Hanshaw Jr. of Lewisburg, W.Va., has been given to the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College’s Educational Foundation. The Foundation was given a house, which was part of the Hanshaw estate, located at 311 Walnut Street in Covington. According to Dr. A.P. Smith, executive director of the Educational Foundation, the property has been listed for sale and the proceeds will be placed in the Madonna Hepler Nursing Scholarship Endowment. Smith said the scholarship was established in 1984 by Dr. Meade Edmonds and Josephine Dellinger in memory of Madonna Hanshaw Hepler.

Free School Supplies Offered
The chirche in Iron Gate have purchased school supplies for the children of Iron Gate. On Monday the churches met at the Iron Gate firehouse and unloaded the supplies. Later the children were allowed to stop by and choose the supplies they need for school. Churches participating in the project were Iron Gate Advent Christian, Iron Gate United Methodist, Kayser Presbyterian, Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ, Iron Gate Baptist and Iron Gate Community Church. Those who helped with the project included Lawrence Newcomb, Clivie Nicely, Ronnie Dowd, Victor Nicelt, Brenda Nicely, Madeline Nicely, Edith Snedegar, Delawrence Godfrey and Michael Adkins pictured below.
