HOT SPRINGS – Clarence Edward Pegram, 84, of 332 Brook Drive, Hot Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

He was born February 10, 1925 in Covington, the son of the late Bishop Pegram and Elizabeth Hood Pegram. He was married to his wife of 35 years, Cora C. Pegram, whom he married on August 10, 1974.

Mr. Pegram worked as a Janitor and Orderly at the Bath County Community Hospital. He also was employed with the Homestead Resort where he worked in Housekeeping and the Bell Stand.

He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as an usher and on the Hospitality Committee. Mr. Pegram enjoyed sports of all kinds especially fishing and hunting. He was an avid Bath County Chargers fan.

He is survived by his wife, Cora C. Pegram of Hot Springs; two children, Clarice Halsey and husband George Jr. of Covington, John Mack III & Keyane Houser of New Kensington, Pa.; a son-in-law, Floyd Davenportof Covington; five grandchildren, Michael Allen, Martrell Allen, John Mack III, Kenyon Goldsmith and Billy Booker Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Malayah Allen, Andre Booker and Keith Booker; a special niece, Barbara Anne Thomas and husband Jimmy; his home caregiver, Robert Cardwell Jr.; special caregiver while in the hospital, Doris L. and Peter Via; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lenore Davenport; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Pegram, Betty J. Pegram and Beatrice P. Smith; five brothers, Elwood Pegram, Howard Pegram, Charles Pegram, William Pegram and Carl Pegram.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home with the Rev. W. Ed Mansfield officiating. Interment will be in the Pinehurst Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl Church, Floyd Davenport, Oliver Grant, George Halsey Sr., Hall Owens and Woodrow “Woody” Pettus.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
