HOT SPRINGS – John Samuel “Johnny” Bogan II, 62, of Hot Springs, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at his residence.

He was born April 2, 1947, in Farmville, the son of John Samuel Bogan Sr. and Gladys Failes Bogan.

Mr. Bogan worked in the Maintenance Department for the Homestead Resort with 27 years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Faith Covenant Family Church; a Life Member of the Hot Springs Rescue Squad serving several terms as Vice President; served as District Treasurer for 10 years for the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads District 1; and a member of the Promise Keepers. He was a certified Diesel Mechanic. He was a former police officer for the city of Covington and a former deputy for the Bath County Sheriff’s Department.

He is survived by three children, Phillip Heiner of Las Vegas, Nevada, John Robert Heiner and wife Kelli of Sparks, Nevada and Ann Marie Bogan of Hot Springs; a sister Jo Ann Smith and husband Sid of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Douglas Robert Bogan Heiner and Alexandria Lynn Heiner both of Sparks, Nevada.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Shaver officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Rescue Squad, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Va. 24445 or to the Bath County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 309, Warm Springs, Va. 24448.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
