NEW CASTLE – Andrew Turner could not be stopped. The senior erupted for five goals in Bath County’s (3-5) 12-0 blowout victory over Craig County in a varsity boys Pioneer District soccer match on Friday, April 19th in New Castle.
It was on March 22nd that the Chargers boys’ soccer team had last won a game on the soccer field. It was a 9-0 win at home over Buffalo Gap. Since that time BCHS had lost four in a row.
In the win over Craig County, Bath County flipped the script and put on an offensive attack. Along with A. Turner’s five goals, Braiden Mabe and Luke Turner each had hat-tricks as they both scored three goals apiece. A. Turner added three assists. Ignacio Malpica had the Chargers other goal scored.
BCHS attempted 21 shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Frankie DeBoe converted on both of his save opportunities. Mabe was also a vital part of the defensive game as he had five steals to lead the way for the Chargers.
The day before, on Thursday, April 18th, BCHS was shutout at home 6-0 to Eastern Montgomery in a district matchup. The Chargers offense could not get going in the loss as the team attempted a total of four shots on goal. Wyatt Campbell had three steals in the loss, while DeBoe had 12 saves. The Mustangs controlled the game early on as they scored three early goals within the first 10 minutes.
On Tuesday, April 16th, Bath County lost a close 4-3 non-district matchup against Stuarts Draft. A. Turner, L. Turner, and Mabe each had one goal apiece in the loss, while DeBoe recorded 21 saves.
