COVINGTON – Round one goes to Alleghany.
In a non-district varsity boys soccer contest last Friday, the Cougars rolled past Bath County 7-0 in Covington at Clifton Academy.
Five different players scored for AHS. Brenden Seckner led the way for the Cougars with a 2-goal performance.
Alleghany also found scores from Austin Greene, Kevin Worley, Mason Hale, and Sam Moss, all who had one each.
Bath County was shut out for the first time in over two weeks when they were blanked 6-0 against Eastern Montgomery.
Cougars’ goalkeeper Jimmy Quantz had seven saves on the night for the winners.
The Chargers had numerous chances to score on Quantz. The team finished with 12 total shots on goals and misfired the mark five times as they overshot on the nets.
Braiden Mabe, who was coming off a 2-goal performance in the Chargers 4-1 win over Narrows the night before, led BCHS with four shots on goal. Mabe was also once again at the forefront of the defense with a team-high four steals.
Dustin Woods, Noah Bolling, and Wyatt Campell, each had two shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Frankie DeBoe had a big night. Despite the seven goals surrendered by the senior, DeBoe recorded a 25-save performance.
These two teams will meet again in what will be the Chargers season-finale this Friday, May 10th in Hot Springs.
Bath County (5-7, 3-2 Pioneer) has three games left to go and they’re all home games in Hot Springs. The Chargers played Narrows on Monday and will host Riverheads on Tuesday and Alleghany on Friday.
