FORT CHISWELL – One score is all it took.
The Bath County girls’ soccer team picked up its second win of the season last Tuesday with a 1-0 non-district victory over Fort Chiswell in Fort Chiswell.
Laci Ryder provided all the offense that was needed for the Chargers as she knocked in a first half score which proved to be the game’s difference. Ryder, a junior, also had three steals.
Kara King put forth her best effort in keeping the BCHS offense out of the nets. The junior goalkeeper finished with 13 saves in the loss and allowed that one lone first half goal.
While King was dominant on the nets for the Pioneers, the defense from the Chargers was vigorous. BCHS finished with 45 steals in the win. Junior Sierra Gardener led the team with six steals. Meanwhile sophomore Kenley Smith and freshman Reaghan Pritt each had five.
Senior goalkeeper Zoey Jenkins had five saves on the evening as her defense helped keep the Pioneers offense away from the nets. It was Jenkins first shutout of the season.
