On May 2, 2024, Clifton Forge Vice Mayor, Carl “Shorty” Wolfe led a small gathering of people who met up in front of Town Hall for the annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony. The ceremony consisted of the ministerial staff where each member was granted the opportunity to address the crowd and say a prayer to help our nation.
Speakers included Wolfe, who prayed over the federal, state, and local government; Pastor Grover Nicely praying over our military; Pastor Gene Ayers praying over law enforcement and their families; Pastor Glenn Linthicum praying over the church; Pastor David Hanks praying over education; Pastor Teddy Bias praying over our country; Pastor Corney Ray praying over emergency medical services (EMS) and first responders, Abigail Bush praying over the youth; and Pastor Mark Rosier praying over the local community.
The half-hour long service included crowd involvement when Myrtle Drenne and Tammy Wolfe approached the podium and led bystanders in the singing of Victory in Jesus.
The theme was Lift up the World and Light up the World. “Are you lighting up the world?” Vice Mayor Wolfe asked before reading from 2 Samuel 22:29-31.. “…’You are my lamp, oh Lord. The lamp turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against the troop. With my God, I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.’”
