ROCKY GAP – It had been a rough start for the girls soccer team at Bath County as the team started the season 0-4-1 and only had netted one goal in the first five games.
On Friday, that all was thrown out the window.
Playing on the road in Rocky Gap, the Chargers picked up their first win of the season following a 4-3 rally over Bland County.
After falling behind 2-1 at halftime, BCHS grabbed a huge second half performance from sophomore Samantha Horne as she scored three goals for the hat-trick in the team comeback victory.
Despite the three goals surrendered, senior goalkeeper Zoey Jenkins recorded nine saves. However, for the first time this season, not all the saves from BCHS were recorded by Jenkins as sophomore Jaeda Jenkins had one save.
Junior Laci Ryder scored Bath County’s other goal which had occurred during the first half where the Chargers fell behind 2-1 at intermission.
It was Ryder who scored the only goal for BCHS in a 1-1 tie with Bland County three weeks ago.
Bath County (1-4-1) will look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday when the teams host Stuarts Draft.
Bath County 1 3 – 4
Bland County 2 1 – 3
BATH COUNTY (4) – Samantha Horne 3, Laci Ryder 1.
SAVES: Bath County 10 (Zoey Jenkins 9, Jaeda Jenkins 1).
