On November 10, 2023 at approximately 12:20 am, the Covington E-911 Emergency Dispatch Center received a report of an individual with a gunshot wound on the 300 Block of East Prospect Street, in addition to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area. Responding Officers located an adult male with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, as well as additional injuries. Covington EMS transported the male subject to Lewis Gale Alleghany for treatment.
Preliminary information indicated that this incident started as a verbal disagreement that turned physical, which ultimately resulted in a gun battle involving multiple weapons. Officers and Investigators spent approximately seven hours securing the scene, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses. In addition to the initial investigation, subsequent evidence was obtained and on 11/14/2023 Intel J. Allen was arrested for his involvement in the incident. Additional warrants were obtained on 11/20/2023 for Troy L. Helton Jr. and Mark E. Hunter, who were arrested the same day. Deandre L. Burks surrendered to authorities on 11/27/2023. All suspects have been arraigned and are currently being held in the Alleghany Regional Jail without bond. Additional details about what led to the altercation and shooting are unavailable at this time due to the ongoing investigation. Additional charges are pending and subsequent arrests are forthcoming.
The Covington Division of Police, along with the City of Covington Administration strongly condemns acts of this nature and will work diligently to investigate and identify all bad actors and move to prosecute all involved to the fullest extent of the law.
