One of the special projects for the Curtis A Smith Post 1033 Auxiliary this year was “thank you cards” for our veterans to honor Veterans Day 2023. Over 300 cards were made by different local youth groups and schools in this area to show support and touch the lives of so many veterans. We hope it will become an annual project.
Our sincere thanks to the following youth: Jeter-Watson Elementary 4th and 5th graders, Boys Home, First Christian Church youth group, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints youth, Rich Patch Union Church youth and special veteran card makers Collieonia and Carlie Lockhart and Peyton Cales. These cards were sent to veterans hospitals in Virginia and West Virginia, and nursing homes in the surrounding areas and individuals throughout the Alleghany Highlands and beyond. Thank you to all these groups for their support.
This special project will be followed by Christmas cards for veterans in the Highlands and overseas. If you have a special veteran in your life, please let us know so we can honor them. Information can be sent to marianpaxton@gmail.com.
