Thomas Wayne Wade
Mr. Thomas Wayne Wade, age 72, of Covington died Friday, November 3, 2023, at Alleghany Health and Rehab, Clifton Forge.
Mr. Wade was born August 18, 1951, in Alleghany County, the son of Ilia Morandi Wade and the late Sanford Lee Wade. Thomas was a graduate of Alleghany County High School and attended the former Dabney S. Lancaster Community College now Mountain Gateway Community College. In high school, he was a member of the wrestling team where he competed in the 130lb weight class. He earned a fifth-place ranking in the state of Virginia wrestling tournament. Mr. Wade was also a member of the cross-country team, track team and the marching and concert bands. Following graduation and college, he worked as a sorter for United Parcel Service. On Memorial Day 1970, Thomas was involved in a car accident where he sustained a traumatic brain injury. He loved to work, was exceptionally good at spelling words and loved to sing. He was a former employee of Jackson River Enterprises. Mr. Wade was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In addition to his mother, Ilia Morandi Wade, Mr. Wade is survived by a brother, Michael S. Wade and wife, Dreama of Covington; three sisters, Jo Laughlin-Vance and husband, Karl of Roanoke, Susan Doyle and husband, Donny of Vinton and Marisa Seay and husband, David of Covington; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his father, Sanford Lee Wade, Mr. Wade was preceded in death by his brother, Sgt David Lee Wade.
A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Augustine Lukenge officiating, assisted by Father Tom Collins. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Aaron Seay, Patrick Wade, Erick Williams, Adam Christie, Butch Lane and Daryl Doyle.
A Christian Wake was conducted at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Loving Funeral Home with the family receiving friends following the wake until 8:00 p.m.; the public was encouraged to attend the Christian Wake.
