Rev. Dr. Dianne Quarles was recognized at Wrightsville Baptist Church’s 119th anniversary celebration, last month, with a special presentation for 23 years of faithful service as she leaves to continue her ministry, Taking Care of Each Other Outreach Ministries at 234 Court St.
Quarles was presented with a plaque, flowers, cards, and gifts to show appreciation for her years of serving at WBC. Quarles is a former member of Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, Covington, but left there 23 years ago to join her late husband, who was a member of WBC.
Some of the services Quarles rendered during her time at WBC are as follows: Associate Minister; Trustee; Worship Leader; Sunday School Teacher; Church Program Director; President of the Missionary Circle and Willing Workers; Youth Director; she also served communion, led prayer meetings and bible studies, started a women’s fellowship; and drove the church’s van.
Quarles is a 1973 graduate of Alleghany County High School and a graduate of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, now Mountain Gateway Community College. She also studied with Word of Life and Knowledge Brings Power Institute’s Theological Seminary.
Quarles is a lifetime resident of Covington, the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Sorrells Brown, granddaughter of Lizzie Sorrells, and the widow of the late Rudolph Quarles, Sr. Married for 53 years, five children were born to their union: Elder Rudolph Quarles, Jr.; Coach Deloris Quarles; Deborah Spencer (H. Lewwellyn); Evangelist Doritha James (Winston H.); and Coach Delethea Quarles. She also has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
