HOT SPRINGS – Searching for that second win of the season and their first since opening day Bath County (1-4) seemed to have full control, but despite a once five-run lead, Craig County would rally with nine runs in the final three innings to defeat the Chargers 11-7 in a Pioneer District baseball game in Hot Springs on Friday, April 19th.
Trailing 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning the Rockets pushed across five runs in the inning to build a two-run advantage at 9-7. It was a lead that they would not relinquish. Following RBI singles from Cameron Huffman (2-for-4) and Matthew Lucas (3-for-5/ND), Hayden Reynolds (3-for-5/W) put CCHS in front 8-7 with a 2-run single. Drew Duncan (1-for-3) followed with a sacrifice fly out.
Craig County grabbed two big insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning as Lucas provided the team with a 2-run single. Lucas led the Rockets with three RBI’s.
While Lucas led CCHS with his bat, he earned a no-decision on the mound as Bath County scored on him seven times However, it was his team’s defense that did not back him up as the Rockets committed nine errors. In relief Reynolds earned the win as he tossed four scoreless innings after relieving Lucas in the fourth inning.
Bath County was led by Cooper Lowry (2-for-4/ND) who had two of the team’s four hits. Lowry also had a no-decision on the mound as he gave up two runs on two hits in four innings where he walked one and struck out five. Nathan Hunt (0-for-3/L) suffered the loss for the Chargers as he allowed seven runs on seven hits in two innings.
After falling behind 1-0, BCHS scored five times in the bottom of the second inning as five errors led to three of the five runs to score. Remington Gordon (0-for-3) and Owen Perdue (0-for-2) each walked with the bases loaded in the inning.
A.J. St. Claire (1-for-4) had an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning which led to a second run score on the play on a throwing error. This helped build the Chargers then five run lead at 7-2.
BCHS grabbed an RBI each from Gordon, Perdue, St. Claire, Jake Boguess (0-for-4), and Issac Ingram (0-for-2).
Craig County outhit Bath County 11-4.
