Jacks push streak to four straight wins

FRONT ROYAL – The surging Covington Lumberjacks (17-14) who had their game on Thursday, July 13th get washed out would not let their momentum be stopped as the team picked up its fourth straight victory following an 11-6 win over the Front Royal Cardinals at Bing Crosby Stadium. 

 Covington’s fourth straight win was started in the top of the first inning as the team pushed across six runs which was highlighted by a two-run single from Chenar Brown. 

 Despite falling behind early Front Royal got back into the game and cut the lead to 6-4 following a two-run inning in the bottom of the fifth inning.

 With the Cardinals climbing back into the game, Covington extended their lead back to five runs with a three-run sixth inning on RBIs from Edinson Renteria Jr. and Javier Crespo. 

 Luke Smith helped extend the Lumberjacks lead to 11-5 with an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning as the team added two insurance runs in the inning to take a six-run lead. 

 Covington’s offense for the second game in as many days exploded with 16 hits. The Lumberjacks had three players in the lineup with a three-hit day at the plate: Brown, Renteria Jr., and Christopher Watson. Brown and Smith led the team with two RBIs each.

 Despite allowing four runs, Kyle Pijaszek improved his record to 3-1 on the season. Pijaszek gave up seven hits, walked two, and struck out five. Out of the bullpen Brian Garmon II tossed four innings where he gave up two runs (one earned), one hit, one walk, and struck out three. 

 Six of the Cardinals eight hits came from Blaze OSaben of Warrenton, Va., Nicholas Capozzi, and Daniel Stephens as the trio each had a pair of hits, while Jaden Anderson led the team with two RBI’s.
