IRON GATE, Va. (VR) – The Iron Gate Town Council will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 25, at 7 p.m. at Iron Gate Town Hall with an agenda that includes a public hearing on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2023-2024 and a proposed increase in cigarette taxes.
The meeting will begin with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the official call to order.
The public hearing on the proposed budget will provide residents with an opportunity to voice their opinions on the town’s financial plans for the upcoming fiscal year, including the proposed increase in cigarette taxes.
Following the public hearing, the council will approve the minutes from the regular council meeting on April 27 and the work session on May 15. The council will also review and approve receipts, disbursements and payment of bills.
Mayor and committee reports will be presented followed by a public comment period for residents to address the council.
Old business on the agenda includes updates on the Simpson case, the application for credit at Fisher Auto Parts, revisions to the grass ordinance and the status of the Roads of Honor banners.
New business items include requests for adjustments on utility bills, a vote on the application for credit at Fisher Auto Parts, setting dates for the June work session and council meeting and a closed executive session under VA Code 2.2-3711, Item #7, for legal matters.
