LOW MOOR, VA – Eleven straight.
Following their 7-1 victory on Tuesday evening over the James River Knights, the Alleghany Mountaineers (11-0/4-0) remain unbeaten in 11 games this season.
In those 11 games, the games have not even been close. The Mountaineers have had two games be decided by three runs or less. The rest have been won by four or more runs.
The Mountaineers have been nothing short of dominant this season. Their run differential to other teams is 117-22.
22 runs! That’s all they have given up thus far this season. They are outscoring their opponents by just over eight runs a game.
Pitching continued to dominate on Tuesday as Hunter DePriest (W/0-for-1) picked up his third win on the season as he went the distance pitching a complete-game. DePriest struck out 10 batters over seven innings of work where he allowed just one run on six hits, while walking two.
DePriest was backed by early run support from the Mountaineers offense as the team scored two runs in each of the first and second innings.
Following back to back singles from Eli Weese (2-for-3) and Conner McPeek (1-for-3) to open the bottom of the first inning, Garrett Via (1-for-3) followed with the teams third straight single as he drove in the games first two runs. The second inning was followed with an RBI double by Chris Harden (2-for-2) who drove in Dalton Griffith (1-for-3) after he led off the inning with a single. Harden would come around to score after Weese reached first base safely following a dropped third strike.
The Mountaineers 4-0 lead would be more than enough for DePriest and the team to get by the Knights. The team would add a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Peyton Meadows (0-for-0) and Kole Caldwell (1-for-3) also had RBI’s.
Colin Cook (2-for-4) in the seventh inning drove in the Knights lone run. He and Hunter Mays (2-for-4) led the team with two hits a piece. Heath Andrews (L/1-for-2) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in four innings on the mound where he walked two and struck out eight.
The Mountaineers will look to make it 12 straight on Friday when they travel out to Radford for a district meeting with the Bobcats.
