Cheryl Lowery Lockhart, 80, of Covington, died Monday, December 13, 2021, at Lewis-Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.
Mrs. Lockhart was born June 28, 1941, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Jesse James and Gertrude Reynolds Lowery.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Stuart Samuel Lowery and James Jay Lowery.
Cheryl was a member of Highland Chapel Christian Church and served as church pianist. She was a teacher for over 30 years in the Alleghany County Public School system. In retirement, Mrs. Lockhart volunteered at Lewis-Gale Alleghany Hospital. Over the years, she sang and played piano at countless weddings and funerals. She was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed watching Nascar Races.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, James “Blue” Lockhart; two daughters, Jackie Oppelt and Whitney (Greg) Stinson; a granddaughter, Rachel (Caleb) McGarry; three step-granddaughters, Christina Stinson, Kathleen (Clay) Comer, and Courtney Stinson; three sisters, Linda (Joe) London, Karen (George) Barnhart, and Susie (Ron) Kaffen; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Burr and Lola Angell.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Broughman officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
The interment will be in Huffman Memorial Park at 3 p.m.
