NASHUA, Iowa — Alma Bartley McCarthy Wilder age 82, of Nashua, Iowa, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester, MN.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory – Olson Chapel in Nashua with Rev. Darin Cerwinske officiating.
Interment was at at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua, with Anthony McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Chelsey McCarthy, Evelyn McCarthy, Azlyn McCarthy, Maddie McCarthy, Bobby Lore, and Richard Clipperton serving as pallbearers.
The family received friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory – Olson Chapel in Nashua. Alma Wilder was born on August 14, 1939, in Prince George County, Maryland.
She is the daughter of Elmer M. and Elaine (Stover) Bartley.
She graduated from Covington (VA) High School in 1956.
Alma married Patrick McCarthy and to this union, five sons were born. They were later divorced.
In 1966, Alma married William (Bill) Wilder of Nashua. They made their home in Nashua in 1968.
Alma worked at Lynches Grocery Store, Chautauqua Nursing Home for 18 years, and Casey’s General Store for 28 years.
Alma was devoted to the VFW. This appreciation for the VFW Mission came from her understanding of the sacrifices of her father, her sons, and others who served in the military. She especially enjoyed her trips to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Alma enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafting; and especially all things Christmas.
She was a loving, caring person. If she was your friend, she was always your friend.
Her real treasures in life were her five sons, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Alma is survived by her five sons, Pat (Linda) McCarthy, Cotter, Arkansas; John (Wanda) McCarthy, Waynesboro, Virginia; Michael (Marjorie) McCarthy, Yuma, Arizona; Richard (Mia) McCarthy, Dallas, Texas; and Steve McCarthy, Ankeny, Iowa. Six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Drumheller. Many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents and sisters, Connie Bowles, Peggy Tolley, Faye Craft; brothers-in-law, Calvin Tolley, William Craft, and niece, Virginia Bowles.
