On the evening of Tuesday, May 14, the Virginia Review held our annual “Athlete of the Year” ceremony to honor local student athletes for their outstanding achievements in sports. During the evening, several speakers took turns sharing their journeys and encouraging the students with words of wisdom backed by years of experience.

Approximately one month ago, the Virginian Review opened the voting poll for athlete of the year in all sports categories, both boys and girls. The categories included: softball, baseball, football, cheerleading, golf, track/cross country, basketball, wrestling, soccer, swim & dive, volleyball, tennis, and the overall male and female athlete of the year. All nominees and winners received a trophy for their hard work and the honor of being nominated. Most of the student athletes were present to collect their well deserved award.

At the end of the night, 15 trophies remained on stage without an owner to claim them. Those recipients are: Eli Weese, Des Jordan, Xzavier Hayslett, Kai Rowland, Faith Barron, Chris Harden, Kole Caldwell, Jacklyne Snyder, Trinity Scott, Rocklynn Phillips, Taylor Scott, Madison Holt, Sara Akerson, Alaina McCormick, and Eli Entsminger.

Please visit our office, located at 229 West Main Street in Covington to collect your trophy. We are open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM—4 PM.

We wish to congratulate all of our student athletes for your hard work and dedication to your sport! We look forward to seeing you soon.
