September 16, 1931: South Covington
Mrs. C.H. Davis, of Pittsburgh, Pa., is visiting her husband on Lee Street.
Mr. Bob Moore of York Street, is visiting friends and relatives in West Virginia.
Mr. Larrie Humphres of Rich Patch spent a while Tuesday with his sister Mrs. P.G. Given of York Street.
Quite a few people of South Covington are attending the fair this week.
Miss Nilda Bess, has returned to her home on Durant Road from the Charlottesville Hospital very much improved.
The mid-week prayer service will be held at Parker’s Hall tonight and everybody come.
Mr. and Mrs. Minix Shafer, of Locust Street, Covington, spent last evening with Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Clark of York Street.
Miss Kaynelle White of Neola is spending some time with Mrs. Harold Johnson of York Street.

September 16, 1946: Falling Spring
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vawter and son, of Richmond, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Robbins and Mrs. Dabney Carson for the past several days have returned to their home.
Mrs. R.D. Kyle left Sunday for Abington, to attend the conference of the FFA which will be held in that city during the coming week.
Mrs. Ethel Pentz is spending some time in Pittsburgh, Pa., as the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pentz.
Jimmy Deacon recently underwent a tonsilectomy at the Covington General Hospitzl and is recovering at the home of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Kyle.
Mr. and Mrs. John Friel spent Sunday at the home of Mr. Friel’s grandmother, Mrs. Allie Stewart of Mingo, W.Va., where many friends and relatives called to greet Mrs. Stewart who was celebrating her 93rd. birthday.

September 16, 1971: Notices Issued By Recreation Department
The City Recreation Department has issued the following notices:
Persons who took swimming classes and Junior and Senior Lifesaving courses at the pool this summer are reminded that their certificates are at the City Recreation Department offices and may be obtained Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Concerning little league football, any coach that has not submitted all his team applications or has not given the jersey numbers on the applications are to do so by 5 p.m. today without delay.
The City Recreation Department indicated this is a must in order for the rosters to be completed before the games on Saturday night.
Any players for the Dairy Queen Girl’s League team who has not turned in her jersey is asked to do so as soon as possible. The uniforms may be given to Sue McCauley at the City Recreation Department.

September, 16 1996: No Lotto Jackpot Winner
There were no winners for the $1 million Lotto jackpot, the Virginia Lottery said Sunday.
The numbers drawn Saturday night were 1, 10, 13, 20, 36.
Thirty-eight tickets had five numbers right to win $1,171 and 1,940 tickets had four correct numbers to win $49. Another 30,793 tickets had three correct numbers, good for a free Lotto play.
The jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing is expected to be $1.5 million.
There was one Cash 5 $25,000 winner. There were no $100,000 and $50,000 winners.
The Cash 5 numbers were 14, 21, 24, 26, 31.
The Kicker numbers were 8, 3, 2, 8, 5, 5.

September 16, 2011: Millboro Ruritans Meet In September
The Millboro Ruritan Club met September 12 at the clubhouse for their monthly dinner meeting.
Isaac Haney was the guest speaker for the evening. He spoke on his experience representing Bath County High School at Boy’s State. The event was held June 19-25 in Lynchburg. He was sponsored by the Ruritan Club.
