Today’s Headline: Post Office In Covington To Be Remodeled.
The treasury department announced today approval of 31 post office and other public building projects to be financed under the $60 million emergency construction fund authorized in the deficiency appropriation act.
Work in Covington will include extension and remodeling.
The last in the series of weekly religious meetings conducted by the members of the Covington Ministerial Association will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the recreation hall of the Dolly Ann CCC Camp.

Today’s Headline: Courtney Cook Killed in Line Of Duty Auto Crash.
Covington native Courtney Cook was killed while responding to an emergency call. His vehicle smashed into another patrol car leaving the scene of a raid early today in Newport News.
Cook was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cook, 215 Beech Street, Covington. He was a graduate of Covington High School, class of 1956.
First Methodist Church was the scene Friday evening, June 23, for the wedding of Leona Carole Steele and Phillip Lee Huffman.

Today’s Headline: Decision To Transfer Clifton Forge Jobs Stands Says Watkins.
The decision to transfer 65 jobs from the Clifton Forge Chesapeake and Ohio shops to Cumberland, Md., will not be reversed according to Hays T. Watkins, chairman and chief executive officer of the CSX Corp.
Westvaco in Covington is holding an open house Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for community members, employees and their families.

The Alleghany High School Back at You team, composed of Sarah Wilson, Zach Hunter and Chris Rybitski, placed seventh out of the 46 teams in their division at the global finals for Destination ImagiNation, held recently in Knoxville, Tenn.
