Over the past few months, the Virginian Review has conducted a donation drive for the Alleghany Humane Society on 9313 Rich Patch Road in Covington. Because the Humane Society is in constant need of pet food and supplies for the many dogs and cats they house every day, the Virginian Review reached out to the community in an effort to assist them.
The response was overwhelming! Day after day, members of the community stopped by our office to drop off bags of cat food, dog food, cases of canned dog food, cans of Friskies, cat treats, dog and cat toys, and one bag of dog food so large, one employee at the Virginian Review required the use of a dolly to get it out to her car. Even our employees got in on the action and brought in items for the drive.
After counting everything that was brought in —and a $50 check— the total amount of items we were able to drop off at the Alleghany Humane Society were 114 items and one check. We loaded up one of our reporter’s cars who drove the donation over on the afternoon of January 10th, where she was met with grateful employees who kept the office open just a little longer for the sake of the animals they care for.
While the drive has concluded, members of the community may still donate items through the Virginian Review. As items come in, we will continue to deliver them to the Humane Society.
The Virginian Review would like to reach out to the community to say thank you for your efforts and support! Without your help, the drive would not have been possible. We also wish to thank the Alleghany Humane Society for all their hard work each and every day to help the needy animals in our community.
