Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary made a lot of veterans happy this holiday season by sending Christmas Cards to veterans throughout the highlands. With the help of local youth groups we were able to send 545 cards. It was an amazing feat. Thanks to all of you who donated your Christmas cards. This project could not have happened without your support. We would especially like to thank the youth who made this possible– First Christian Church youth, The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints primary class and A-1 Dance Studio. Cards were sent to local VFW posts, veterans hospitals and individuals. A lot of lives were touched by these young folks and a lot of veterans are smiling.
Sending Christmas cards to veterans is an annual project for the post auxiliary so we will do it again next year. If anyone in the community has boxes of cards they don’t want, please reach out to us. Also, if you have the name of a loved one you would like to receive a card, please reach out to Marian Paxton at marianpaxton@gmail.com. We also participate in the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Craft Center’s Valentines for Veterans project as they spread cheer far and wide.
